When Can You Bring a Defamation Case to the Police?
If you are accused of a crime that isn't true, then file a criminal complaint. Do not take no for an answer from your local police department. Most police departments and/or officer don't even know there is such a thing as criminal slander. If they do investigate that report may help your civil case if the person is not arrested. If the person is arrested, and is found guilty, you proof in a civil case has already been established.
