Hillsborough County is the most populous county in New Hampshire, home to its two largest cities, Manchester and Nashua, and to busy commuter towns like Bedford, Merrimack, Hudson, Goffstown and Milford. Attorney Levasseur's office at 396 S Willow St sits right in Manchester, a short drive from the Hillsborough County Superior Court, and he has practiced law in New Hampshire for 24 years. If you were hit anywhere in the county, you can talk to him directly.
Roads Where County Crashes Happen
- I-93 and I-293 through Manchester, including the interchanges near South Willow Street and the airport area, with heavy commuter and truck traffic.
- The F.E. Everett Turnpike from Nashua through Merrimack and Bedford, with toll plazas where traffic slows and merges.
- Route 3 / Daniel Webster Highway through Nashua and Merrimack, lined with shopping plazas, turning traffic and driveways.
- Route 101 and Route 114 in Bedford and Goffstown, and the Route 101 bypass toward Amherst and Milford.
- Route 102 and Route 111 in Hudson, and the Taylor Falls and Veterans Memorial bridges between Nashua and Hudson.
- South Willow Street, Elm Street and Second Street in Manchester, where stop-and-go traffic, pedestrians and parking-lot exits mix.
Which Court Handles a Hillsborough County Case
Larger car crash lawsuits are usually filed in Superior Court. Hillsborough County has two: the Northern District in Manchester (for Manchester, Bedford, Goffstown and nearby towns) and the Southern District in Nashua (for Nashua, Hudson, Merrimack, Milford and the southern towns). Smaller civil claims, and any traffic or DWI charges against the other driver, go through the 9th Circuit Court district divisions in Manchester, Nashua, Merrimack, Goffstown and Milford. Hooksett is in Merrimack County and is served by the 6th Circuit in Hooksett; Attorney Levasseur handles Hooksett crashes too.
What to Do After a Crash in the County
- Call 911. Depending on where you were hit, the report may come from a local department such as Manchester or Nashua police, or from State Police on the interstates and turnpike.
- Photograph the vehicles, the scene and any traffic signals, and get witness names.
- Ask nearby businesses to save security video. Footage along busy commercial strips is often recorded over within days.
- Do not give a recorded statement to the other driver's insurer before getting advice. Call 603-622-7575.
Deadlines Matter
In New Hampshire, most personal injury lawsuits must be filed within three years of the crash (RSA 508:4, I). There are limited exceptions, and claims against a city, town or the State can involve shorter notice requirements. Evidence such as video footage, vehicle data and witness memories fades quickly, so it pays to call early.
If You Were Partly at Fault
New Hampshire uses modified comparative fault (RSA 507:7-d). You can still recover as long as your share of fault is not greater than the fault of the party you are making a claim against, but your damages are reduced by your percentage of fault. Insurance adjusters often try to shift blame, so do not give a recorded statement before getting advice.
